the life of Choie Sew Hoy

Choie Sew Hoy was born in Guangdong province in China in 1838. Life was very hard for Choie Sew Hoy. Most families were farmers and very poor. When Choie Sew Hoy was 13 he traveled from China all the way to the United States of America with some of his extended Family to take part in California’s Gold rush. The Group did so well that when Choie Sew Hoy returned back to China and he was able to get married and had 4 kids. A few years later when gold was discovered  in Australia Choie Sew Hoy sailed all the way to Melbourne, Australia. He had learned something from his trip to California: that he saw that people who sold things made more money.  Choie Sew Hoy was an accomplished and highly successful merchant, and a gold miner.

He died on the 28th of October 1902 at 9.00pm. His bones were put onto the Ventnor to be transported back to China so he did not become a ‘Hungry Ghost.’ The boat sunk and his bones, along many other Chinese bones, were washed up on the north side of the Hokianga Harbour in New Zealand. Choie Sew Hoy left a huge Legacy with many 100’s of descendants who recently  celebrated 150 years since his arrival in New Zealand.

Once when I was a little boy, I saw this beautiful forest up upon the woods.   I went into the forest and there I saw this door,  with a tree stump on it.  Then I thought to myself ,  if I should go in or not .  Then I said yes of course,  so I went through the door, there I was in the galaxy colorful  stars and the solar system too.  It looked so awesome that I wanted to stay but I  couldn’t so I hurried back to the door and would see that place soon in time .

Lifting a Line

I hurried back to the door and would see that place soon in time .  As time passed I went back straight  to the door and went through it  again but  it  changed and it felt like I was in a another world.  It was so  fascinating  that  I  wanted to live in this  majestic  place to discovered other parts of  it as well.

Why Mission Day Is Important To Us.

What do we do on a mission day?

On Mission Day, this year it is one September 13th, we would go to a school mass to start the day. St Patrick’s students  would do tests that we do every year to have a goal to raise money to help our partner school in Kalyanpur, India. This cause is for the Holy Angels Orphanage. We have raffles for great prizes at the end of the day and  we watch cool movies for a great ending of the day.

Why is Mission Day so important?

Mission Day is important because we fund raise for an Orphanage who are needing money to help support themselves. This School Saint Patrick’s School  is really  old and has been taken care of by the mission sisters and   so many cool facts and a lot of beautiful history about St Patrick’s school.

Why do we do Mission day?

We do Mission day because we can raise money for the holy angels Orphanage In India to help support and supply for their daily needs.
